How do you know whether the vet that treats your bird or exotic pet is really a specialist?
A board-certified veterinary specialist is a veterinarian who has undergone extensive training, including an internship and a residency in their specific area of expertise, followed by a challenging examination to achieve board certification. For exotic animals, this certification process is regulated by one of four recognized organizations; ABVP (American Board of Veterinary Practitioners), EBVS (European Board of Veterinary Specialists), ECZM (European College of Zoological Medicine) and ACZM (American College of Zoological Medicine) All of our veterinarians are board-certified by the ABVP or have ABVP residency training to become board-certified.
If you do not see the initials ABVP, EBVS, ECZM or ACZM after a veterinarian's name, they are not truly a specialist in the exotic animal field.
